Special Notice

Sweetland Garden Mercantile will be taking more aggressive steps to help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus. We realize that we have a lot of vulnerable people in our community and feel fortunate that the virus has not yet been reported on the Ridge. We want to help keep things that way and we ask you to help us. We carry hardware, and household items, as well as garden supplies, food plants and vegies. We hope that our services will help you and your family during this time. We also hope to help you not go to a big store, if you can avoid it. Here are the changes.

Our store will remain open, but the following changes will be made;

New hours are 9am – 3pm Monday through Saturday. We will reassess on April 1st or sooner if a government agency tells us different.

March and April classes will be postponed.

Only Five customers will be allowed in the store at a time.

Phone orders will be accepted and we can meet you in the parking lot with your order.

Products like Alcohol, Peroxide, gloves and Masks will be limited sales. NO HOARDING will be allowed.

We ask you, if you are sick in anyway, have a cough, are sneezing, or have sputum, to not come into the store. This is for the safety of our customers and employees, please call us at 530-292-9000 and we will  come to your car. Many of us have vulnerable loved ones.

We ask if YOU are vulnerable, ie have a compromised immune system to call us at 530-292-9000 from your car for assistance. It is known that some folks with the virus show no symptoms. Take precautions for your health and those you love.

Our employees sadly, will not be shaking hands, giving high fives, or giving hugs. They will be stepped back away from you. Sorry, social distancing does help. We still love you.

Our employees will be wearing gloves for their protection. We suggest you wear gloves for yours.

Our employees might be wearing masks. We suggest you wear one as well.

Doors, counter, and cash register area will be disinfected several times throughout the day. We have made a hand sanitizer out of aloe, alcohol and soap and it is on the counter for employee use.

Our bathroom will be for employee use only.

Please don’t be spitting in our yard or near the store….Be responsible.

Social distancing is a sad, but real thing. Keep your distance from other customers.

Try NOT to touch every product on the shelf. It’s hard I know, but please read or ask for gloves to help you look at something. Whatever you touch we have to disinfect…

Please be patient with us. Orders are coming in slow and somethings are in high demand and out of stock. Many of the businesses we purchase from are having difficulties. Orders are not being imported. Employees are being let go or are working from home.  Counties have shut down businesses. Freight companies are reducing routes. Products are getting harder to come by. We are doing the best we can to find products to keep on our shelves. But we cannot control the market or fear that is happening in our world today. Have empathy and be kind.

Please be patient with us. We, as a business, are vulnerable as well. We need to sell the spring products that we have just received. Lots of items are already in.  It is unlikely I will be ordering new items or excess product. We still have to pay for all we bought. We would like to stay open as long as we can.

Please be kind to us and to all customers in the store. It seems to be a time of heightened fear and personal stress. We all are dealing with fear and stress in some form, being exposed, loss of funds, restricted movement, limited supplies or being in a world gone crazy!  Each of us feels these times in a different way. We will see indifference, panic, calm, and just plain ‘dealing with it’ attitudes. To me the most helpful thing to do is listen to each other and accept a person’s feelings as they are. Don’t try to change them, Just be kind.

We are taking things seriously at Sweetland, maintaining a good attitude and doing what we can to alleviate stress for you and us. Once in a while, you might even catch us dancing. We hope you can join us.

PEACE
